Professional tool reviews for professionals

Looking at performance, durability, and cost per cut, we are not sure why you should buy anything other than the Diablo Iron Demon with cermet teeth.

Compared with the past bonded abrasive discs, metal cutting has made great progress. Wait, what am I talking about? The metal cutting saw is still transporting abrasives. Oops, several brands are still innovating in abrasives! There is a lot to say for those 10 to 20 dollar disks that keep our grinding saws grinding. However, if you are willing to go beyond the boundaries of cheap trash cans, you will find a metal-cutting beast there that has an unprecedented appetite for steel. Get to know the Diablo Steel Demon metal cutting saw blade with Cermet II technology.

Cermet is a combination of ceramic and metal carbide, which is smoother than Fred Astaire himself in metal cutting applications. But before I tell you all the great things about the performance of this blade, let's start with the basics.

We brought several different metal cutting saws, abrasive cutters and metal cutting blades in order to find products with the best cutting characteristics for our current secret project. Don't worry, everything will be revealed in due course-just not today. We are looking for cutting speed, durability and smooth finish.

Diablo Steel Demon metal cutting saw blades appear on our workbenches with a diameter of 14 inches and a handle of 1 inch. The teeth are made of the above-mentioned cermet mixture and have very long wear resistance. Diablo claims that compared with standard carbide blades, their service life is 3 times that of cermet blades. This is not 3 times that of abrasives, but 3 times that of carbides. Diablo's carbide inserts produce 40 times the cutting volume of abrasives, so you don't need much imagination to realize that this is a durable insert.

One of the features that improve durability and speed is Diablo's triple chip grinding. This proprietary grinding makes cutting more efficient while reducing the number of visible burrs. Three-metal anti-vibration brazing helps teeth withstand the torturous nature of metal cutting, and metal cutting will tear the teeth with ordinary blades.

The stabilizer vent has been laser cut on the steel blade to reduce noise and vibration during the cutting process. Even the coating on the blade, Diablo's Perma-Shield, is a non-stick coating designed to help the blade pass through the material more easily.

You want to make sure that you use the right tools to do the job. Abrasive cutters and cutting saws seem to be the same tool, but they are not. Abrasive cutters run at higher RPMs and are used for abrasives (obviously, right?) and Milwaukee Steelhead Diamond Cut Off Blade blades. Diablo Steel Demon metal cutting saw blades are specially designed for cutting saws and operate at 1800 RPM or lower. Blades are not designed for higher speeds, and if used incorrectly, you may be at risk of premature failure.

Now, after making sure that we have solved this problem, let's talk about performance. We set up our cutting saw with Diablo blades and some scrap angle irons as an audition for our project.

We are an online magazine suitable for family use, so I won't tell you the first sentence that comes to my mind. I looked up at Clint and said simply, "Butter. Hot knife cuts butter."

Of course, this is a phrase that is completely overused, but compared to other blades, this is how it feels. If the Milwaukee blade can easily make a path in the metal (and it does), then the Diablo blade only needs to touch its cermet teeth to the edge and let it separate like a red sea. I did some more editing just because the experience was great, and then I gave it to Clint to try.

After knowing how quickly we can cut and wipe off the smiles on our faces, we look at the results more objectively. The Diablo blade produces far fewer sparks than any other blade we tested. It also left a solid surface with only a few burrs on the inside of one of our incisions.

After we rotated the Diablo Steel Demon Metal Cutting Blade for the first time, it took us about 5 seconds to realize how impressive this blade is. It provides us with the fastest and cleanest cut (to date) found in any other blade we have tried. But all these technologies and performance come at a price, right?

The suggested retail price of this blade is $140, but the online price is as low as $109. Admittedly, this is a lot compared to the $15 abrasive disc on a cutting machine, but not as good as the $150 to $200 you paid for other carbide tips and diamond options. Coupled with the extreme durability of the blade, claiming that its life is 3 times longer than that of standard carbide blades, I have to wonder why anyone would buy other things.

Technology is always changing, and innovation is always pushing us forward. We are far from the end of this journey, but the dark steel demon metal cutting saw blade is the best we have ever used.

DCS spends most of the time watching the rumorbusters, trying to figure out what their vague labels are saying so that he can recreate the explosion. His hobbies include imitating Chuck Norris, imitating Sean Connery and fly fishing. David performed stunts himself.

I have been looking for a blade that I can use with nails in hardwood. Do you think this blade will heat up and wear prematurely if it is used on wood?

Guys, this blade is recommended for saws with a maximum speed of 1800 rpm, but the picture in the story shows a saw with a rated speed of 3800 rpm. Can you explain the difference? thanks

Too bad, I want a blade that can be used with my "regular" abrasive cutter...
